Cherry Grove

An unincorporated hamlet in the town of Brookhaven, New York is Cherry Grove.

Cherry Grove is located on the southern side of Long Island on Fire Island and has a summer season population of around 2000.

One unique feature of Cherry Grove is that it is the Nation's oldest LGBT( lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.

The main outdoor attraction is the beach. Apart from the beach, there are a wide selection of restaurants in the vicinity of Cherry Grove varying from pizzas, seafood and fine dining. Four entertainment venues host plays, arts shows, drag shows and many community events. "Invasion of the Pines" is a major event in the Cherry Grove social calendar.

The reason for this festival goes back to 1976 when a resident was refused service as he showed up wearing drag in the Pines.
